Description & Services
Description The City of Markham and the Markham Race Relations Committee presented Many Faces of Markham 2016 on Sunday, March 20th. This annual cultural celebration is held in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, as designated by the United Nation General Assembly in 1966 to pull together international communities in the fight against racial discrimination in all forms.
This year’s theme was ‘Aboriginal Celebrations: Voices from the Past, Present, and Future’ and supports the municipality’s commitment to the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination (CCMARD) and their focus to promote respect, understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity and the inclusion of Aboriginal and racialized communities into the cultural fabric of the municipality.
Students across the City are invited to submit works of art, videos and writing pieces to the Many Faces of Markham Art Contest, in celebration of Markham’s aboriginal community. All submissions can be viewed in the Flato Markham Theatre Main Lobby prior to the main event.
