| Description | This branch coordinates various ministries' programs to respond to particular plant closures or downsizing. Advises public on requirements under the Employment Standards Act concerning termination of employment - employee adjustment programs Vocational counselling services for workers displaced as a result of plant closures of downsizing. The branch participates in the Program for Older Worker Adjustment (POWA) financial assistance to workers aged 55 - 64 who lose their jobs. The TRANSITIONS program assists workers over 45 years of age who are on notice of layoff or have been laid off within the last six months. Approved applicants are credited with $5000 to use over a two year period for institutional or on the job training and job retraining. |
