| Description | Programs: Community gardens, Backyard Gardening Kit Program, Back-to-School Backpack Program, community food drives, Annual Food Bank Survey, community kitchens, public education and food program resources. There are three community based gardens located in Markham, Newmarket and Aurora. Small plots of land are available free to residents to grow fruits and vegetables. We ask that community gardeners donate a little of what they grow to their local food bank. Open to all gardeners. Each February York Region Food Network supports the Daily Bread Annual Food Bank Survey by training volunteers to conduct surveys at food banks in York Region. Gleaning Program: Farmers invite low income families to pick fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste or be plowed under.
